Marjorie Clapp Roberts Suber passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025. She was 104 years old. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Perry Methodist Church in Perry, Georgia. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to Perry Methodist Church, 1002 Carroll Street, Perry, GA 31069.
Born on April 2, 1921, in Washington, DC, to the late Harvey Spaulding and Virginia Harrison Clapp, Marjorie grew up in Fairfax County, Virginia. After high school graduation, she went to Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where she earned a degree in Elementary Education. She married Edmund Hunt Roberts, Jr., and the couple soon welcomed a daughter, Susan. Marjorie lost her first husband when he was killed in action during World War II on Christmas Day 1943, leaving Marjorie a young widow with an infant daughter. She then married William Ellis Suber, with whom she had two children, Jim and Martha.
In 1950, the family relocated to Perry, Georgia, where Marjorie became a cornerstone of the community, and dedicated twenty-seven years to teaching first grade in Perry. She was a highly respected and well-loved teacher. Marjorie was an active member of Perry Methodist Church for sixty-four years, where she was a member of the Howell-Cobb Sunday School Class. She also sang in the Joy Choir there for twenty years, sharing her love of music and her joyful outlook on life. A self-taught pianist, Marjorie enjoyed music and was an involved member of the Duet Club. She was also a member of the Muses Book Club, Sorrell Club, and the Daughters of the American Revolution, reflecting her wide range of interests and commitment to civic engagement. Marjorie’s life was marked by resilience, optimism, and a deep commitment to her community and church. Her gratitude and joy for life left a lasting impact on all those who knew and loved her.
Marjorie was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Edmund Hunt Roberts, Jr.; her husband, William Ellis Suber; her sister, Virginia Clapp; her brother, Harvey Spaulding Clapp, Jr.; and her daughters, Martha Suber Gregory and Susan Roberts Chadd.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Mrs. Suber are her beloved and devoted son, Jimmy Suber of Maple Hill, Kansas; her grandchildren, John Chadd, James Chadd (Wi), Edmund Chadd (Heather), Joseph Suber, Andrew Suber (Stephanie), Susan Gregory Clendenen (Jon), and Camille Gregory; ten great-grandchildren plus another great-granddaughter due in March; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
