Man pleads guilty to aggravated assault in Houston County

HOUSTON COUNTY — Brian Eugene Clarke, 40, has pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault. Clark was sentenced to 20 years, with the first 12 years to be served in prison and the remaining eight to be served on probation. 

According to a media release, this case was from a September 24, 2023, incident where Calvin Felder, 67, was shot in the leg by Clarke. The release said Clarke arrived at Felder’s residence in Elko to confront another male who had been living in a shed behind Felder’s home. Clarke and the other male proceeded to get into a physical altercation. 

After Clarke was struck in the head, the release said he went to get a firearm from his car. As Felder was coming out of the back door, trying to get him to leave his residence, Clarke shot his firearm through a privacy fence, and the bullet struck Felder in the leg.

Clarke was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney of the Houston County DA’s Office Sandra G. Matson, along with the assistance of the Houston County Sheriff’s Office. 

Houston County District Attorney Eric Edwards shared comments on the sentencing. 

“When you introduce a gun into a conflict, you take it to a level that changes lives forever,” he said. “We’re grateful the victim survived, and we hope this sentence sends a message that reckless violence will not go unanswered in Houston County.”
