Mail thieves arrested after road check
WARNER ROBINS Ga. – A safety check near Elko Road turned into a police chase on May 11 when law enforcement discovered two subjects stole mail from multiple homes.
According to Houston County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Matthew Moulton, the Georgia State Patrol was conducting the road check when the suspects’ vehicle fled the checkpoint. This led to a brief car chase. When the two suspects were in custody, law enforcement observed a large amount of mail in the vehicle that didn’t belong to the suspects, later identified as Nyron Walker, 32, and Billy Denson, 47.
This led to police involvement; they towed the vehicle and issued a search warrant to recover the found mail. Moulton said that during the process, they identified that the Walker and Denson were stealing bank statements, personal identification statements and debit cards that were mailed to victims from their banks. He said that the suspects were using the debit cards fraudulently and using victim’s personal information for financial gain.
Moulton said the investigation is ongoing and they are currently identifying the names of the victims. Law enforcement is also determining the severity of the fraud committed.
According to a Facebook post made by the sheriff’s office, they said if anyone had their mail stolen in April and May and live in neighborhoods – Hiwassee Drive, Southfield Court, Empire Trail or Sewell Road to send an email to Corporal Ross at cross@houstoncountyga.org.
