Loving life without snow
Since moving down to Middle Georgia from Rhode Island in early October, I have been fortunate to be a part of experiencing nice weather instead your typical cold New England fallwinter temperatures.
It really hit me over this past week that my family back in Rhode Island and Massachusetts was getting their real first taste of snow since March and here I was enjoying weather in the 50s and 60s. Prior to moving here, I had never been in a warm weather state during these months expect for vacationing in Arizona several years back in the months of February and March.
The nicest thing about not having to deal with snow anymore is, besides the obvious shoveling and bundling up for freezing temperatures, is the ability of doing things without drawbacks. If there is a decent amount of snow on the ground in New England, there is usually a lot of school and work delays or cancelations with the poor road conditions. Here I have noticed that with no snow, I can travel freely without restrictions with nice weather during the winter months, unlike in years past.
Although the New England area doesn’t experience it’s the worst stretch of the snow until January, it is nice to know we won’t be getting any down here, according to many of the folks in the Houston County community. I assume that some of the Houston Home Journal readers have never experienced a foot of snow before or a snowstorm like I have during my 23 years living in the New England area.
I pose the question to you: how would you feel if you experienced a foot of snow for several days? The reactions would probably be some wanting to experience it and some that don’t. If you are willing to trade in your shorts and t-shirts for a big winter jacket, gloves and two layers of clothes, then you will have no problem seeing what it is like to go through several months dealing with the snow.
In the end, I am glad I made the decision to move down here to experience a new change with my life with nicer weather. For those asking, yes I will be ready when the temperature hits close to 100 with a 100 percent plus humidity. Even though I haven’t dealt with those temperatures since 2009 or 2010, I am fully geared up for summer heat and will continue to report on what is important in Houston County at the same time.
