WARNER ROBINS — This week, Heroes and Villains Comics and Games finished up their fifth annual Rations for the Realm food drive.

According to their Facebook post, their community donated 6,576 items to the Warner Robins First United Methodist Church Food Bank.

Manager Mallory Moss said they initially started the canned food drive as a raffle coinciding with the popular card game, Magic: The Gathering. Customers can bring in canned food for a chance to win prizes. This year, they have expanded that to all of their gaming communities, including Dungeons & Dragons and Pokémon.

“We called it Rations for the Realm and decided to make sure everybody had a chance and get more donations,” she said. “People love it, and every year the community shows out.”

Moss said Heroes and Villains loves to give back to their community. Along with Rations for the Realm, they also do a backpack drive during back-to-school season.

“We’re always doing something, but it was the old manager who came up with [Rations for the Realm] as she wanted to do something for the holidays.”

Participation this year had definitely increased, according to Moss.

“Everybody, given the current state of the world right now, people just really wanted to give more than they normally do,” she said. “Every year, we are just blown away by the way that people come out for this [food drive].”

Moss thanked those who participated and is blessed with the fact that they have such a generous community.

“Even when some of them don’t have it, they just give because they understand the importance of the community here too,” she said. “We love to be able to share this space with those people everyday.”

Overall, the Rations for the Realm food drive and Heroes and Villains are driven by the support from the community.

“We are part of this community and we are only here because of them,” she said. “We’ve been here for 20 years, we love it here, we all grew up here, we want to keep going and we want to give back as much as we can  because they give back to us all the time.”
