Local athletes bound for Peach state games
HOUSTON COUNTY, GA — The GHSA State track and field championships will take place on May 12-14, at various locations. Class A public and class 4A, will compete in Albany at Hugh Mills Stadium. At McEachern, class A private and class 7A will compete at Grisham stadium. In Carrolton, classes’ 3A, 6A and Adapted will compete for state titles. Lastly, GHSA class 2A and class 5A will compete at Kinnett Stadium, in Columbus, Georgia. Day one will feature field events. Day two will feature running events. Day three is the final day of the GHSA State track and field championships, which will consist of finals for running events and the presentation of trophies. Several athletes from Houston County Schools will compete in the Georgia state championships. An athlete from each Houston County High School will advance and compete in the state championship, presented by the Atlanta Track Club. Northside’s Camden Kopsick placed third in the shot put and discus throw, are among those that will represent the Eagles from Green Street. “War-Town’s” Victor Burley was crowned as the region champion for region 1-5A in the shot put. Lady Demonettes high jumper and 100-meter hurdler, Jeinna Bryant placed high at regionals and sectionals. Burley and Bryant are among the athletes who will represent Warner Robins at the Georgia State Championships.
The Bears from HOCO won the county track and field championship, in 2022. Houston County High School also has twenty athletes who will travel to McEachern. Laurence Hill qualified for the long jump and the triple jump. Jayden Jackson will compete in the Discus throw; Marquia White will throw both the discus and the shot put. All of the Houston County relay teams will compete in the GHSA track and field state championships.
Houston County’s men track and field coach has lead the Bears to a stellar 2022 campaign. Coach Latimer and the track and field team of Houston County has helped the athletic teams to win their tenth region championship of the school year.
