Local athletes announced to all-state teams

WARNER ROBINS, Ga — The annual GHSA State Championships were concluded over the recent weekend. Day one featured field events, day two featured running events and day three was the final day of the GHSA State track and field championships. Day three of the state championships consisted finals for running events and the presentation of trophies.

Several athletes from Houston County Schools traveled to various stadium sites to compete in the Georgia state championships. An athlete from each Houston County High School was represented in the state championship, presented by the Atlanta Track Club.

As the biggest high school track and field meet in the Peach state, competitiveness was at an all-time high. Warner Robins Lady Demonette, Jeainna Bryant placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles, which allowed her to make the all-state team. Bryant also competed in the high jump in the state championship. Charleston Southern commit, Zemaya Carson set a new personal record in the discus throw, at sectionals. Carson threw a 139’1 at sectionals, but placed fifth at the state championships. Alongside placing fifth in the discus throw, Zemaya Carson placed second to first in the shot put.

Warner Robins athlete, Aiden Moore was stellar at the state games. Moore placed eight in the pole vault, which solidified his spot on the all-state team.

Houston County’s Joy Whittington ran a 14.92 in the 100 meter hurdles and placed sixth overall. In the 100-meter event, Kenadie Singleton ran a 12.02 to place third in class 5A. Northside’s Leah Howard was sensational, as well. Howard ran a time of 56.83 in the 400-meter event and placed fifth overall, in Georgia. For the Lady Warhawks, Emma Rice finished with a time of 2:24:64, in the 800 meter. Rice concluded at eight overall, for the Veterans. Also in the 800 meter, Kameran Kennedy ran set a new personal record with 1:59:08. Kennedy placed sixth in the state championships.

The Perry Lady Panthers set a new 4×800 meter relay school record. The original Perry High school record was 11:21. The Lady Panthers ran a time of 11:00 flat, at the state games.

The Panther 4×100 meter relay team placed second overall in the state championships. The relay team that includes; Caleb Wilson, DaeQuan Wright, Dakari Anderson and Rodney Bryant finished second with a time of 42.46. Freshman, Ahmad Carter placed seventh in the 100 meter. Senior, Terrel Parker placed eight in the 110-meter hurdles. Parker ran a time of 16:05.

Junior, Rodney Bryant took home the 2022 state title in the 300 meter hurdles. Bryant ran a time of 38.22. Rodney Bryant is now the most recent of any state champion within Perry Panther athletics.
