Dear Editor,

On Thursday, January 6, I was happy to see my Houston Home Journal in my mailbox. I realize, if I were a puppy, my tail would have been wagging and my tongue hanging out, because I love The Journal. I have always been a newspaper “junkie”!

Unfortunately, as I turned to page three, my heart was saddened when I saw the obituary for Mr. Robert E. Tribble. Mr. Bob, as I called him, had been one of my biggest encouragers during several of my fights for justice.

Maybe it was because I was born with red hair, or because I was born in Dodge County, one of the 10 most corrupt counties in America, that I learned to fight injustice.

It was in one of my most challenging fights that I met Mr. Bill Tribble, the station manager of Channel 13 WMAZ in Macon, Georgia. Mr. Bill had invited me to do an editorial on television, and he put me in touch with the “60 Minutes” news show in New York. I was fighting the 11th Circuit panel of federal judges, who had just overturned the murder convictions of three escaped Maryland prisoners who came to Georgia and killed six members of the Alday family on a mere technicality.

A few days later, I received a call from Mr. Bob Tribble, the brother of Mr. Bill Tribble and a newspaperman. These two fine men were champions of justice, and they gave me encouragement to fight one injustice after another, as well as to help me kill a state law called the Occupation Tax in 1991 that could have cost us our military bases! Mr. Bob told me that when you stand up to injustice, you encourage others to do the same.

I had Mr. Bob on my mind for several weeks after I had a conversation with his son, Mitch, when he told me some sad news, that his father was having some health issues. Now, I realize how important encouragers are, and how we all should be grateful for the amazing people who we are blessed with that made our lives better and gave us the strength to stand up for our fellow man.

Mitch, I realize that you have some big shoes to fill, but I know you can fill them, because just like me, you had an amazing father who gave you the strength, character, dedication and Christian values that you will need for the job.

I give you my deepest sympathy. God bless you and your family!
