Letter to the Editor – Carolyn Schomer

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Dear Editor,

I would like to compliment several of your columnists for recent articles. Mr. Jim Rockefeller used the case of missing Abby Petito to offer a well-written and documented article regarding Domestic Violence.  October is DV month, and while most media focused only on one missing and murdered young woman, Mr. Rockefeller provided statistics and data pointing out the pervasive nature of this issue.

Mr. Charlie Harper addressed the current process of creating new district maps in Georgia following the 2020 Census. He described the difference in federal and state districts and how the Senate, House, and Governor will each have their version of a plan.  Each plan may have different priorities and need to be negotiated, thus taking weeks, or potentially, months. He said to expect delays and appeals. I hope the HHJ will follow this with information about the criteria and methodology each branch is using to draw their maps to enable transparency for the public.

Mr. Kelly Burke answered a number of questions about the law and potential COVID vaccine mandates. His article provided simple but clear information pointing out various laws and historical court rulings. One wonders about the time, money, and energy being spent on the lawsuits being filed around the country in light of his article.

Also, thank you for the inclusion of Community Activities featured in the Calendar section on page 3. This is a valuable contribution to the community.
