Letter to the Editor – Aaron Hufstetler
Dear Editor,
Needless, to say, I was very disappointed with the turnout for the mayoral election for Warner Robins on November 2 with only 7,233 qualified voters voting. There are 50,163 registered voters in the city of Warner Robins. That indicates that 42,930 citizens did not participate in the election for whatever reason.
The incumbent, Mayor Randy Toms, has done an outstanding job for the citizens of Warner Robins for the last seven years by creating economic engines that allows keeping the taxes low.
As with many cities the size of Warner Robins that continue to grow, we have problems from time to time. However, for a time, a council was in place that did not want to cooperate with the mayor, and that always has consequences.
Without the lobbying efforts of Mayor Toms, we probably would not have Buc-ee’s on Russell Parkway at I-75. That alone provides tax revenue from the travelers from all over the United States. Just stop by sometime and check out the vehicle tags.
Also, we have a recreation complex where sports organizations can bring in teams to occupy hotel rooms, fill up vehicles with gasoline and eat in our restaurants to bring in tax revenue.
So, having said that, I urge the majority of the Voters that stayed home in the mayoral election and vote to re-elect Randy Toms in the November 30 runoff and keep Warner Robins moving forward.
Affectionately,
Aaron Hufstetler
Warner Robins, Ga.
