Langston Hughes shocks Northside: Eagles fall in State Quarterfinals 48-7
Coach Chad Alligood and the Northside Eagles finished their season with a 9-4 record. Northside and Langston Hughes, both come into this second round matchup with impressive records. Northside was standing at 9-3 overall, while Langston Hughes came into the matchup with an 11-1 record. The Eagles from Warner Robins finished their regular season with a 7-3 overall record and a 2-1-region record. Northside advanced to the third round of GHSA State AAAAAA Playoffs as the second seed from region 1-AAAAAA. Injured Micah Thurman and Centavious Lowe led the charge for the Northside Eagles, this season. The Northside defense could not matchup against the Langston Hughes Panthers (Fairburn, Georgia). Turnovers by the Northside Eagles helped the Langston Hughes Panthers jump out to a 27-point lead. The Panthers from Metro Atlanta (Fairburn) scored their third touchdown on a 41-yard pass from Armani Tookes. Plays later, the Langston Hughes Panthers scored again on a two-yard run.
The Northside Eagles managed to get on the scoreboard before the end of the first half. Northside scored their only touchdown on a 15-yard pass from Cameron Brown to Jaylen Allen. Northside kicker, Ashton Paredes made the point after attempt.
The Eagles started the third quarter well and forced the Langston Hughes Panthers to punt. This changed the flow of the game temporarily, but then Northside threw another interception. This Northside turnover helped the Panthers set up a nine-yard touchdown run. With the score 34-7, many of the Northside players began to look very defeated. The Langston Hughes Panthers scored two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter, while the Northside Eagles saw nothing but punts. The Eagles ended their 2021 campaign with an undefeated home record (7-0). Northside was also a sub-par road team and finished 2-4. The Panthers scored 20 unanswered points to closeout the Northside Eagles. The Langston Hughes Panthers improved to 11-1 overall, (6-1) in the region. The Panthers have allowed 97 points on defense, but have scored 505 points on offense. The Langston Hughes Panthers will improve to 12-1 and the Panthers will also advance to the GHSA State Semifinals (Final-Four).
