Lady Warhawks sweep two matches, Lady Panthers split
KATHLEEN, Ga. – The Veterans Lady Warhawks were in-sync Thursday night as they swept both the Jones County Lady Greyhounds and the Perry Lady Panthers.
The Lady Warhawks were firing on all cylinders, and jumped out to 20-13 over the Lady ‘Hounds
The Lady ‘Hounds were able to crank out three more points but that was all they were able to muster in the first set, losing to the Lady Warhawks 25-16.
The Lady ‘Hounds knew they had to win the second set and came out of the blocks firing off and led 9-4 early in the set.
The Lady Warhawks struggled at the service line with many service errors and unforced hitting errors, and they had to call a timeout to slow down and regroup.
The time-out was successful as the Lady Warhawks were able to crawl back to lead 17-15.
The Lady Warhawks then went on a terror and scored the next eight points to capture the set, and the match 25-16.
The Lady Warhawks’ experienced setters Grace Lamontagne and Taylor Lamontagne were able to manage the offense to produce opportunities for the outside hitters, which played a big part in the victory.
Libero Mia Verger was able to get off passes to feed the setters and had many saves off of serves that led to side-outs.
The Lady Warhawks wrapped up the evening facing off against their county rival – the Perry Lady Panthers.
The first set was competitive by both squads as side-outs were exchanged for the first 10 points that each team scored. Neither team was able to lead by more than two to three points at one time.
The Lady Warhawks got many kills by Nyah Fox and Jasmine Cryunlinski, however Lady Panthers’ libero Hailee Hudson was able to prolong and save many points with pancake saves throughout the sets.
Eventually the Lady Warhawks’ power kills by the outside hitters prevailed in the set allowing them to capture the important first set victory 25-21.
The Lady Panthers started the second set but they were not able to capture any points, turning it back over to the Lady Warhawks. Lilly Maddox started off scoring the next seven points before the Lady Panthers called their first timeout to try and regroup.
After the timeout, The Lady Warhawks scored three more points to lead 10-0 and the Lady Panthers were not able to get the serve back until the score was 22-1.
After getting the serve the Lady Panthers couldn’t rally, and lost the set and match 25-5.
Lady Warhawks head coach Jamie Goubeaux stated the “volleyball IQ” of Fox and knowing when and what types of shots to lay down after reading the defenses moves aided in both match victories.
Goubeaux went on to say they had many opportunities to test out their new offensive schemes to carry them throughout the season.
The Lady Panthers first match was a highlight as they were able to capture the victory over the Lady ‘Hounds in three sets 25-15, 23-25, 15-2.
The first set with started off with alternating side outs and neither team was able to put together scoring runs until each team had around nine or 10 points.
Lady Panthers’ Tatrianna Simmons was able to spark the scoring to put up a lead.
They started the second set and put up 10 points, and eventually led 17-4.
The set was looking good for the Lady Panthers as they hit 20 first and lead by eight.
The Lady ‘Hounds, however, fought back and tied it at 20, and with alternate side outs they eventually won the second set 25-23.
The Lady Panthers would not be denied in the third set, though, as they started off serving and led the Lady ‘Hounds 9-0 when the serve was turned over.
After the Lady Panthers forced the serve to turn over the pushed the lead to 13-2 before finishing the set with Hailee Hudson.
Lady Panthers’ head coach Jamie Stewart praised her team after the matches, and said although they split the matches, her team showed they could bounce back from deficits.
