Lady Warhawks hosts Dutchtown Lady Bulldogs for Senior Night

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

On Wednesday evening, the Veterans Lady Warhawks honored nine seniors on their volleyball team as they hosted the Dutchtown Lady Bulldogs in a best-of-five set match. Each senior was introduced, highlighting their high school careers and the ambitions each player has for after high school. The best- of-five match was extremely intense, and it was decided in the final set.

Opening the first set of the match, Dutchtown rallied to win by a score of 25-15. Dutchtown was unable to use their success as motivation in the next two sets. The second set went into extra points as the Warhawks took that set by a score of 34-32 and used that momentum to win the third set 25-21. The Warhawks were now in control and took the lead over the Lady Bulldogs two sets to one. The Bulldogs were able to rally to win the fourth set, 25-16, to force a decisive fifth set. The fifth set was back and forth with the Bulldogs. The Warhawks beat the Bulldogs, winning 15-12.

All the seniors were active on the statistics showing the leadership each one has demonstrated through their play that night. Veteran’s stats were impressive — as a team they had 11 aces, 48 kills, 47 assists and 91 digs. Abigail Snyder led with a “double-double” in Assists (22) and Digs (15), which also include three Aces and one Kill. Lani Mazo had six digs, four kills, one ace, one block and one assist. Kaylee Jones had 14 digs, nine kills, four blocks and one assist. Haylee Mitchell finished up with seven digs, one ace and one assist. Breya Cobb had three kills, three digs and one block. Abbey Dowling had four kills.

This senior leadership on display led to great stats by the underclasswomen. Underclasswomen were led by Taylor Lamontagne (Junior) with a “double-double,” which included 15 kills and 14 digs. Other teammates who finished with double-digit stats include Mia Verger (junior) who had 19 digs, Nyah Fox (junior) who had 12 kills and Grace Lamontagne (freshman) who finished up with 12 assists. All of these stats not only show the coaching staff’s leadership but all the seniors on the team as well.

The team stats not only reveal the strength of the team this year but also what the future will hold in the years to come. Congratulations and best wishes to all the seniors this year.
