KATHLEEN, Ga. – The Veterans Lady Warhawks began their volleyball season hosting the Lady Patriots of Northside-Columbus and Region 1-6A Lady Eagles of Northside-Warner Robins.

The Lady Warhawks started the evening battling the Lady Patriots in a best of three sets in a close match, and then closed out the evening capturing both sets against the Lady Eagles.

Northside-Warner Robins battled in two contested sets in which the Lady Patriots pulled out the victory.

Lady Warhawks head coach Jill Nash took over the varsity after being an assistant coach for many years. She started the season at 2-0 with victories over Northside-Columbus 25-17, 25-23, and Region 1-6A Northside-Warner Robins 25-5, 25-13.

The Lady Warhawks were led by Taylor Lamontagne and Rylee Marfell who put up some crucial sets that led to spikes, but the outside hitters allowed them to pull ahead of both opponents.

The Lady Warhawks added many points at the service line and preserved points with their defensive players in the back row, including libero Mia Verger.

Taylor Lamontagne also added dump sets over the net on the second hit to add quick points for the Lady Warhawks.

Outside hitters Nyah Fox, Lily Maddox and Jasmine Cyrulinski added many of the kills over the sets and Serenity Jones added defensive blocks in both matches Thursday night.

In the Northside-Warner Robins match the Lady Warhawks were able to hold the service by an average of 3 points and held the Lady Eagles to just over 1 point per service. Both matches showed the dominance of the Lady Warhawks.

After the matches Nash thanked families, school administration and the community for their support of the volleyball program at Veterans.

Nash is looking for Veterans to have a strong season, and she continued to praise her team’s leadership to include eight seniors, four juniors, and two sophomores. She feels this leadership will allow them to do well, both in the region and inter-county competition.

There are two opponents Nash has her eyes on in Region 1-6A: Houston County and Lee County High Schools.

Veterans will play Grovetown and Lakeside early Saturday, Aug. 12 at 9:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. respectively.

Next week they play Jackson at home on Tuesday, Aug. 15 at 5 p.m.
