Lady Panthers shoot down the Lady Seminoles in mercy rule

PERRY, Ga. — The dooming weather predicted the Westside Lady Seminoles’ (0-7, 0-6 Region 2-4A) fate against Perry Lady Panthers (9-0-1, 5-0 Region) on Tuesday night.

Perry started strong with the kickoff, and they were ready for an easy win.

Senior center back Fraser Knapek took control of the ball. Dribbling it down the field, she quickly entered the Lady Seminoles’ 10-yard box. One minute in, number nine had already sunk the ball into the Lady Seminoles’ net to make it 1-0 Perry.

Another shot was made shortly after, once again by Knapek. With a stray ball landing right at her feet, she took a chance. Almost 60 yards away, she knocked it straight towards the goal. The Lady Seminoles fumbled with the ball, and it bounced into the net.

Hitting Westside hard again, the Lady Panthers knocked another ball into their net.

Ansley Parker sneakily intercepted a pass, and finding herself in the box, she slammed it into the Lady Seminoles’ keeper. The ball bounced back, and she slid right around Westside’s defenders to cut it into the goal.

The weather wasn’t letting up, and the rain made it more difficult for the Lady Seminoles.

But the storm wasn’t stopping Perry.

Sadie Surber dashed down the field and held on to the ball. It looked effortless as she sank the ball right past the Lady Seminoles’ keeper to put the Lady Panthers up 4-0.

With nine minutes left in the first half, the Lady Panthers were almost halfway to mercy rule. Madilynn Foster would make this happen.

As the ball was cut across the field and into the 10-yard box, it stumbled across Perry. The Lady Seminoles could not reach the ball before Foster jumped above them all and headed it right past the keeper in a fantastic effort to make it 5-0.

Knapek ruled the pitch in the second half, adding two more goals to her total to inflate the lead to 7-0 Perry.

10 minutes into the second half, Parker and Foster added two more shots straight into the Lady Seminoles’ net.

With half-field dashes and timed through balls, it was only a matter of time before Perry ended this match.

Going out with a bang, Surber ran right in. She snatched a stray ball, and in a similar story, it looked too easy when she passed it past the Lady Seminoles for the final score.

The Lady Perry’s flow was unstoppable as they mercy ruled the Lady Seminoles.

“We want to take this energy as we head into our region match Thursday night,” Head coach Nathan Dooley said.
