Lady Panthers lose to Vets, HoCo sweeps Valdosta

The Perry Lady Panthers lost to the Veterans Lady Warhawks 8-3 on Wednesday night. The loss was the fifth of the season for Perry and their fourth in a row. The victory was only the second of the season for Veterans.

The Lady Warhawks went ahead early, driving in six runs during the top of the first inning and adding additional runs during the third and sixth innings. During the first inning Anna Dumas tripled and was driven in on a single by Lindsey Cauley. Buster Gainous and Kyndal Foster each drove in runs during the inning. The three Lady Panthers runs came off of a first inning three-run home run by junior Emma Pruitt.

Along with Pruitt, junior Olivia Hardy, sophomore L.T. Reynolds, junior Emily Davis, senior Madyson Kelly and freshman Terra Odom all had hits during the game. Pruitt pitched an inning, giving up eight hits and six earned runs to go along with two strikeouts. Junior Ashley Gidney came on in relief to pitch six innings, giving up seven hits and one earned run with two strikeouts.

The Lady Panthers will travel to Griffin to play the Spalding High School Lady Jaguars in a regional game on Thur., Sep. 1.The Lady Warhawks will host rival Houston County on Thur., Sep. 1.

The Lady Bears swept regional foe Valdosta High School on Thursday, 15-0 and 17-0 to go 2-0 within Region 1, Class 6A. “It was a great overall team win,” said coach Angela Crawford. Houston County has an overall record of 7-3 and will play at Lee County High School (Leesburg) on Tues., Aug. 30.
