Lady Eagles drop heartbreaker against Lady Trojans
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. – Northside Lady Eagles’ softball is underway in the second week of competition, with a matchup Monday night against the Peach County Lady Trojans.
The Lady Eagles battled through most of the way, but a late inning surge from the Peach County won them the game 12-1.
The game was a scoreless affair through four innings of play, but that ended at the top of the fifth when Peach County got on base with a single and then scored off of a bunt sacrifice and a throwing error to put them ahead 1-0.
The next two runs were scored by a two-run home run followed by a solo home run.
Though they were down 4-0, this did not dampen the Lady Eagles hopes. They put runners on base in the bottom of the fifth, but unfortunately were stranded at the end of the inning.
Peach County rallied in the top of the sixth inning to score eight runs, including three home runs, one being a grand slam.
The Lady Eagles attempted to come back in the bottom of the sixth inning and scored one run off of a double and a single. The next batter hit a line drive to first base doubling up the batter and base-runner.
The final out was popup to the outfield to end of the game at 12-1. Northside dropped to 1-2.
Kadence Cooley pitched strong all six innings to lead the Lady Eagles but unfortunately the strong hits and unfortunate errors in the fifth and sixth innings allowed Peach County to pull ahead.
Though they’ve dropped a couple straight, Lady Eagles head coach Travis Spell still has a positive outlook on what they can fix.
In their loss against Perry, Spell stated they were in the game but costly mistakes that they have to learn from need to be corrected to move on to the next level.
Spell stated they have a relatively young team with only five seniors and many underclassmen that are stepping up.
Spell said the energy and enthusiasm in the dugout and on the field and should help the Eagles battle in each game.
The Lady Eagles are back in action next week on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at home against region opponent Thomas County Central High School at 6 p.m.
