Kathleen’s Warhawks charge past Coffee Co.

KATHLEEN, Ga. — This week was Spring Break for Houston County students and athletes, but that did not stop the Veterans Warhawks.

On Tuesday evening, the Hawks hosted a region foe. The region foe was the Trojans from Coffee County. The Hawks were sluggish to begin, but their tempo accelerated as the game continued.

The Warhawks prevailed against Coffee County. The final score was 6-5, as the Hawks won a non-region contest in Houston County.

The Veterans Warhawks batting average was .400 against the Coffee Trojans (Douglas). For some team totals: The Hawks had 25 plate appearances, 12 hits, 5 RBI’s and scored 6 runs in route to their tenth win of 2022. Following a home game in Kathleen, Veterans will host the Houston County Bears on Monday, April 4, at 6 p.m.

Veterans is 1-3 in their region, which is good enough for the fifth seed in region 1-5A. The Warhawks will travel to Wayne County (Jesup), as the Hawks will compete against the Yellow Jackets in three contests next week. On Tuesday, April 5, at 5 p.m. and again for a double-header on Friday in Kathleen.

In 2022, Hunter Dryden is leading the Warhawks Baseball Team in stolen bases. Dryden has seven stolen bases on the season. Jarrett Pierce is leading Veterans in total fielding percentage. Pierce has a total fielding percentage of 0.984 percent in 2022. For some quick team statistics: The Hawks have scored 110 runs in 2022 but have allowed 107 from opponents.

The Veterans Warhawks are 10-8 overall, and after their recent win, remains in a good position to make the postseason. As the Warhawks continue their region stretch, Veterans is currently anticipating the region 1-AAAAA playoffs. The Hawks are 5-2, at home, but on the road the Veterans Warhawks are 5-5. At neutral sites, the Panthers are 0-1 as well.
