JOY awards presented at scholarship program
The JOY Foundation presented its distinguished awards at the WRAC Scholarship Luncheon “Honoring the Legacy of Academic Excellence.”
The event was held at the Hilton Gardens Hotel in Centerville. Brianna Joy Roberson, a graduating senior at Northside High School, was the recipient of its 2014 Fine Arts scholarship. She has been selected to receive a $600 scholarship for her exemplary performance in music.
The scholarship is awarded on the basis of the applicant’s unique background and education. The recipient must be a graduating senior who plans to make the arts a central part of their life. Brianna plans to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in music theatre at Point Park University in Pittsburgh.
Thomas Chester, a retired military member of 21 years and a civilian employee at Robins AFB, received the JOY 2014 Man of the Year Award. The award recognizes and honors men who volunteer their time and efforts to help youth in their communities. The award brings to light the example set by male volunteers. Chester won the award based on his steady involvement and outstanding service to the youth in the Middle Georgia community.
