I GOT THE “JUICE”
“J.U.I.C.E” is a nickname that I received years and years ago from an old coach of mine. This nickname is what my peers, family and loved-ones refer to me as. Over time “J.U.I.C.E.” not only became who I was, but what I possessed, figuratively. The acronym meaning, “Just understand I conquer everything,” became used as a motivational phrase, which I periodically used during my time as an athlete. I am a young man with many talents, which I intend to leave a legacy and pass on the wisdom I have assessed throughout my life. Among those talents have been my optimism and longevity to analyze, coach, predict and to play multiple sports at a high level. Now as the sports editor of the Houston Home Journal, “Juice” will serve, yet another purpose. While here at HHJ, I will share the “JUICE” from the sports that I love, with you. I Got The J.U.I.C.E; though speculations have shown otherwise, the Los Angeles Lakers front office has given word that their organization does not plan to move out Coach Frank Vogel, at this time. Vogel job is still listed as day-to-day. The LA Lakers have lost 4 out of their last 5 games, including at 111-104 lost on Wednesday night. Frank Vogel told reporters after Wednesday’s lost that he chose to play “the guys that I thought were going to win the game”. Also on my mind is the NFL Playoff game between the LA Rams and the Bucs from TOM-pa Bay. Many believe that the Bucs will pull out a win, but I am not too convinced. I do believe this game will escalate into the high twenties- to mid thirties. I also see both teams scoring defensive touchdowns, but the struggling Tampa offense will not overcome the defensive schemes of the Rams. Ramsey will play lights-out in the secondary, but Matthew Stafford and OBJ will find magic in central Florida. You read it here first; Rams win at Tampa, 33-28. The Chicago Bulls have been of my favorite NBA teams to watch in their 2021-2022 quest, but guard Lonzo Ball was recently hurt and has been ruled out indefinitely for the season. Ball is enduring a meniscus injury that could require arthroscopic surgery. Can the Derozan and the Bulls become the beasts of the east? Are Giannis and the Bucks in a good position to win it all? James Harden is teasing the thought of relocation, is it over for Brooklyn? With the trade deadline on February 10, there’s so much to expect. Could Myles Turner end with the LakeShow, for a Talen Horton Tucker and a first round-pick? Shifting gears, because I want to pick someone’s brain. Is 2022 the year that we see high-prioritized athletes attend Historically Black colleges and Universities (HBCU)? Coach Prime has formulated a great spark in Jackson, Mississippi. Entering another season as the head coach for Jackson State University, the SWAC member is looking to make history among FCS schools and HBCU’s. Also word is out and Maurice Flowers has resigned as the head coach of Fort Valley State University. Flowers left the program on last weekend and the university is searching for a replacement. Maurice Flowers is leaving FVSU with a 7-5 record. Check back in the next sports edition for my editor’s column, I Got The “JUICE,” as I will tease more of the world’s entertaining sports stories.
