I GOT THE “JUICE”
“J.U.I.C.E.” is a nickname that I received years and years ago from an old coach of mine. This nickname is what my peers, family and loved ones refer to me as. Over time, “J.U.I.C.E.” not only became who I was, but what I possessed, figuratively. The acronym meaning, “Just understand I conquer everything,” became used as a motivational phrase, which I have trademarked and periodically used during my time as an athlete.
I am young and a man of many talents, which I intend to leave as a legacy and pass on the wisdom I have assessed throughout my life. Among those talents have been my optimism and longevity to analyze, coach, predict and to play multiple sports at a high level. Now, as the sports editor of the Houston Home Journal, “JUICE” will serve yet another purpose. I will share the “JUICE,” from the sports that I love, with you.
Legendary WNBA athlete and activist, Brittney Griner has made an appeal to President Joe Biden in a letter. Griner pleaded with Biden in the letter to use his powers to ensure her return.
The letter was passed to the White House through her representatives, saying she feared she might never return home and asked that he not “forget about me and the other American Detainees.”
Brittney Griner is a two-time Olympic gold medalist is in the midst of a trial in Russia that began last week after she was arrested on Feb. 17, of this year. Griner was arrested on charges of possessing cannabis oil, while returning to play for her Russian team. The trial for Brittney Griner will resume Thursday. Keep in mind this, fewer than one percent of all defendants in Russian criminal cases are acquitted, and unlike in U.S. courts, acquittals can be overturned.
“Please do all you can to bring us home. I voted for the first time in 2020 and I voted for you. I believe in you. I still have so much good to do with my freedom that you can help restore,” Griner said “I miss my wife! I miss my family! I miss my teammates! It kills me to know they are suffering so much right now. I am grateful for whatever you can do at this moment to get me home.”
Thanks to her agent — Brittney Griner has been able to keep in touch with her, friends, teammates and other WNBA athletes through an email account.
I got the J.U.I.C.E — Shifting gears, again— On five days ago, The Los Angeles Lakers signed Troy Brown Jr., Damian Jones and Juan Toscano-Anderson.
Where will Kevin Durant land? The 33 year old all-star has been with the Brooklyn Nets since the summer of 2019. Recently, the star forward requested for a trade. The latest teams to draw interest in the all-star are the Lakers, Heat, Suns, Warriors and 76ers.
Who do you believe has the best defensive duo in the NFL? Is it Diggs and Parson, in Dallas? Is the best duo, Jalen Ramsey and Aaron Donald, in LA? Who knows?
The NFL season is approaching and fans anticipate the 17 game schedule. This is only the second year the extra game is being played. The NFL will also feature annual games in Mexico and London, in 2022.
Check back in the next sports edition for my editor’s column, I Got The “JUICE,” as I will tease more of the world’s entertaining sports stories.
