HypeSouth Media hosts hoops series that will bring some of the county’s and state’s best to Macon this weekend
Some of Houston County’s and Macon’s best boys high school basketball team’s will go head to head with some of the state’s best in Macon this weekend. HypeSouth Media is hosting it’s Hardwood Invitational at Titans Arena on the Macon campus of Central Georgia Technical College. The four-game event will have local teams from Houston County: the Warner Robins Demons and Houston County Bears and Bibb County: the Central Chargers, Howard Huskies and Westside Seminoles face off against the Cedar Grove Saints, McDonough Warhawks and South Cobb Eagles.
The series is one way some of the best teams in middle Georgia get to get test their skills against teams that might not schedule them in normal circumstances. “There have been a couple people hosting events in Macon for years, but I wanted to try and bring teams from other regions of teh state to spice up the competition locally,” said HypeSouth Media founder Kowacie Reeves, Jr.
The Houston County Bears (2-3 overall following a 50-47 loss at Veterans Tuesday night) will start things off at 1 p.m. against Cedar Grove (1-3) and the Saints senior guards Jeffery Daniels and Brice Brittian. The Howard Huskies (5-1) and junior guard Santino Franklin will play the second game of the day against the McDonough Warhawks (0-2) at 3 p.m. followed by the Central Chargers (2-1) and the South Cobb Eagles (6-1). The Eagles only loss this season came to nationally ranked McEachern at the On the Radar Tip-Off on Nov. 16.
The evening’s nightcap will be between reigning Region 1-5A champion and 2016 5A state champion Warner Robins Demons (4-1) and the Westside Seminoles (3-3). That matchup will have plenty of local talent on display including Demons seniors, guard Keshun Houser and forward Anthony Dillard and Seminoles junior guard Kowacie Reeves, Jr., one of the top players in the state. An excellent student, Reeves has taken a number of official recruiting visits including most recently to Stanford University.
“It’s my vision for this event to grow and become bigger and better every year,” said Reeves, Sr.
Tickets are $10 each. Titans Arena is located at 1780 Anthony Road in Macon.
