Houston Lady Bears claw Lady Cats in shutout

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Last Friday, the Houston County Lady Bears hosted Valdosta Lady Wildcats, which became a game of stat padding. HOCO jumped out to an early lead in the first half of play.

By the tenth minute, the Lady Wildcats seemed to be out of gas; nevertheless, the Lady Bears continued to control the pace of the game. HOCO junior Whitley Anderson gave a spark to the Lady Bears in the first half, as she was very active for the Houston ladies.

Whitley Anderson and Emily Grady scored in their previous tie against McIntosh, but brought the same intensity against the Valdosta Lady Wildcats. After a great first half, the Lady Bears were leading heading into halftime, 7-0. Houston went into cruise control in the second half of play. The Lady Bears somewhat took their feet off the accelerator, allowing three goals and scoring three of their own. The Lady Bears won their match against the Valdosta High Lady Wildcats, 10-0. This match was important because Houston County has solidified their third consecutive region win of 2022. Coach Moe Mohamed and the HOCO Lady Bears soccer team has continued to excel throughout this 2022 campaign. The Houston County Lady Bears have scored 77 goals in 13 games, allowing just seven.

These ladies from Houston County have shutout eight different opponents, over the course of their season. The Valdosta Lady Wildcats were just another to be added to the list. Coach Moe’s Lady Bears are comprised of twelve seniors, who have really taken charge of the locker room. Houston County’s Maci Dunlap, Hannah Grady, Emily Grady, Whitley Anderson and Mady Hughes scored in the win against Valdosta.

The Houston Lady Bears have a few players who are gaining interest from college recruiters, but Coach Mohamed’s team is focused on their region stretch of games. The Bears will look to remain undefeated in the region as they play Lee County, on Friday in HOCO. The Houston County Lady Bears will get every opponent best shots, as they are currently, 15th in the country, 12th in Georgia and 4th in class 6A.

Coach Mohamed “MOE” Mahmoud and the Houston County Lady Bears are 11-1-1 overall, but are still to be defeated in region 1-6A.

Recently, the Houston County ladies began competing against their region 1-6A foes. Senior, Maci Dunlap, leads the Lady Bears. Dunlap is already signed to play D-1 soccer at Georgia Southern University. Dunlap has been a difference maker for the Lady Bears in every game this season.
