Houston Healthcare deciding on new logos
The Houston Healthcare System is looking to possibly changing its logo, which it has had since 2002, so that it won’t be confused with Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
The HHC authority picked The Park Group to redesign the logo, and its four choices were narrowed down to two choices.
The primary option consists of two overlapping white crosses on a blue background with “Houston Heathcare” printed above it, and the secondary option also has two overlapping crosses – white over blue – with “Houston Healthcare” printed below.
Authority member George Curtis suggested adopting both logos and submitting them to the legal department to see if the logos are already copyrighted.
Curtis noted a lot of the hospital’s uniforms and cups do not have the blue crosses, “so it wouldn’t require us to change anything,” he said.
In other action, the authority:
• Approved Henderson Geneva Capital Management as its investment management company, replacing Cupps Capital Management due to poor performance;
• Approved a $75,000 donation to Central Georgia Technical College for its health sciences work. Ivan Allen, board member and college president, abstained;
• Approved a $75,000 donation to Middle Georgia State University;
• Approved a $12,000 quarterly donation to Middle Georgia Community Action. Board Chairman Roy “Sonny” Watson Jr., the group’s chairman of the board, abstained;
• Approved purchase of a modular ambulance remount for Houston Medical Center for $75,840;
• Approved a lab renovation for Houston Medical Center for $5.2 million;
• Approved an electrical upgrade for Perry Hospital for $290,000; and
• Approved $988,212 for finishing work at the north part of the Houston Health Pavilion Diagnostic Center on North Houston Road.
The authority also announced a Doctors’ Day event for Wednesday at the medical center’s Northwest Tower lower lobby. The event is set for 5-7 p.m.
The annual Volunteers Recognition Luncheon is scheduled for noon April 12 at the Cary Martin Conference Center at the health pavilion.
The next meeting of the authority is scheduled for May 25.
