Houston County teams fall in 6A tournament

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — In Houston’s first round win against Grovetown, the Lady Bears scored nine first-half goals, which gave them momentum heading into their Sweet-16 matchup. In the Sweet-16 against Chattahoochee, Houston County managed a seven-game winning streak.

In their playoff game, the Chattahoochee Lady Cougars prevailed for a 2-1 win over Houston. Coach Moe Mohamed and the HOCO Lady Bears soccer team continued to excel throughout their 2022 campaign. In 2022, The Houston County Lady Bears scored 128 goals in 20 games, allowing just 10.

These ladies from Houston County shut out several different opponents over the course of their 2022 season. Coach Moe’s Lady Bears is comprised of twelve seniors, who took charge of the locker room. Houston County’s Maci Dunlap, Hannah Grady, Emily Grady, Whitley Anderson and Mady Hughes were amongst the impact performers in their 2021-2022 scholastic season.

As always, the Houston Lady Bears have a few players who have gained interest from college scouts. The Houston County Lady Bears gave every opponent their best shots as they finished top 50 in the country, top 15 in Georgia and among the best in class 6A.

Coach Mohamed “MOE” Mahmoud and the Houston County Lady Bears finished their season 17-2-1 overall, but won their region title alongside sporting an undefeated record. The Lady Panthers finished 5-1 on the road and 11-1-1 at home.

Last weekend, the Houston men lost to Lakeside-Evans, 5-1. The playoff loss was tough on the road, but the Bears scored their lone goal in the second half and allowed four in the first half. Houston completed their season with a 10-9 record and 4-2 in the region. The Panther men won six games as the host and lost five games on the road in 2022.
