Houston County High senior named Coca-Cola scholar

Houston County High School senior Jeremiah Joy Solis-de Sesto was named one of 150 national Coca-Cola Scholars. The selection began with nearly 95,000 applicants from across the country. He will receive a $20,000 college scholarship. In addition, he is invited to a Scholars Weekend in Atlanta April 4-7, to attend the 31st annual Scholars Banquet and participate in a Leadership Development Institute. The Leadership Development Institute is an intensive leadership training that challenges the scholars to develop an inside-out leadership philosophy.  

 The congratulatory letter from Coca-Cola reads, “You are a game changer – a lightning rod for positive change in your community – and a powerful force for good in the world.” 

 While at Houston County High, Jeremiah served as president of both the National and Georgia Beta Club. He also served as a district representative and state officer for the Georgia Association of Student Councils.  Other activities include: member of the school’s Marching Band and Wind Symphony, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Chick-fil-A Leader Academy, varsity tennis team,

Future Business Leaders of America, Distributive Education Clubs of America, Health Occupations Students of America, varsity Debate Team, History Bowl Team and Spanish Club.  His parents are Lindo Joy and Ana Jean de Sesto.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities.  The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation exists to improve the world through investment in exceptional high school students.
