Houston County High School hosts Middle Georgia cheer competition
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Houston County High School was the spot to be for the Middle Georgia cheer competition on Saturday, September 23.
This event brought out athletes from middle and high school to compete in three sessions throughout the day.
The day included 12 divisions, 51 schools and approximately 435 student athletes all vying for a top spot among Middle Georgia’s cheer programs.
Each team’s routine was synchronized to music, and every movement required precise timing.
The middle school competition included three divisions, including twenty middle schools in the area.
The top three in the small group (1A-4A) included West Laurens, Perry, and Dodge County taking first, second, and third respectively out of nine teams competing.
The top teams in the small group (5A-7A) were two local schools right here in Warner Robins as Feagin Mill and Mossy Creek took first and second respectively out of 9 teams.
Out of the few teams in the large middle school category, Tift County took the crown.
The first high school session consisted of Junior Varsity, 1A, 2A, 5A and Co-ed divisions.
The host school, Houston County, took Junior Varsity followed closely by South Effingham.
Jones County took 5A, Dodge County won 2A and Bleckley County took home 1A.
Houston County’s own Veterans High School won the Co-ed division, with Toombs high coming in at a close second.
The second high school session saw four divisions (3A, 4A, 6A, 7A) of 15 schools compete.
Savannah Christian won 3A, West Laurens 4A, South Effingham 6A and Richmond Hill 7A.
