Houston County GOP hosts rally for Senator Perdue
The Houston County GOP Republican Party hosted a campaign rally for United States Senator David Perdue, Sunday at the Kingsland Farm.
Perdue is the senior United States Senator from Georgia and is running for his second term in office. He has over 40 years of business experience as the former CEO of Reebok athletic brand and Dollar General stores. Prior to his decisive election to the U.S. Senate in 2014, Perdue had never held public office and was inspired to shake up Washington and change the direction of the country.
Many were in attendance Sunday in support of Perdue including, Perdue’s first cousin and United States Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue. Sonny spoke before the crowd and stated that there is a lot of excitement around the state and that something really pivotal is coming up in less than 16 days.
“It’s a pleasure to be back home in Houston County,” Sonny said. “We thank you all for your support, but it’s important that we go out and leverage your influence; it’s so important in these elections. If you look at some of these TV ads, it’s hard for the average person to distinguish what’s going on. No amount of paid advertisement can compensate for the trust people put in you and your influence. I remember when I was running for office, that people would come up to me ask, did you really do that? You have to dispel those kinds of things. Your speaking up and speaking out is important. Every election is important, but I cannot imagine a time where we had such a bigger contrast between ‘a’ and ‘b.’ But folks, read the platforms and see. If we sit back and stay idle, the other side will win, and so I just want to inspire you today.”
“You know David and Bonnie; they are solid good people,” Sonny went on to say. “His father was the Superintendent of the Houston County School System from 1960-1980, and his mother was a long-time educator who created the gifted program in Houston County. That’s the DNA he comes from. Our fathers were brothers, and their philosophy was good wasn’t good enough; they wanted the best, and that’s what David has brought to us. He went for the right reason when first elected and has stayed for the right reason. He will continue to bring us the best.”
Perdue then addressed the crowd and thanked everyone for their support.
“Like Sonny said, it’s good to be home and in Houston County,” Perdue said. “But I certainly have a lot of work and ground to cover. My opponent and liberal outside groups are trying to mislead Georgia voters about my record. The truth is they are willing to say anything about me to try and flip Georgia blue this November. Like Sonny also said, you can’t believe those commercials, you have to do your research. And you will find that my opponent and his team are simply not telling the truth and presenting facts.”
Some of the myths Perdue shared were:
“David Perdue supports removing protections for Americans with pre-existing conditions,” – Perdue introduced the Protect Act (S. 1125) which would ensure protections for Americans with pre-existing conditions without being charged more for coverage, regardless of changes made to Obamacare. He stated he has always been for protecting people with pre-existing conditions and always will be. Perdue believes protecting Americans with pre-existing conditions is simply the right thing to do.
“David Perdue and Republicans want to take away your health care during a global pandemic,” – Perdue has worked to help pass several relief packages during this unprecedented COVID-19 crisis and helped deliver over $6 billion in federal assistance to Georgia’s hospitals and health care workers. These relief packages have included:
•$175 billion to hospitals and other health care providers.
•$32 billion directed at the research, development and distribution of vaccines and treatments.
•$25 billion to expand testing capacity.
•$16 billion to replenish the Strategic National Stockpile.
•Expanded and increased access to telemedicine.
Perdue stands against Obamacare and any form of government-run health care. As a former Fortune 500 CEO, he says he understands that competition in the health care marketplace is the best way to make high-quality health care plans affordable for all Americans.
“So I ask humbly for your support and vote come Nov. 3,” Perdue said.
