Houston County Football boasts six signees on National Signing Day
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Houston County High School’s gymnasium was packed once again Wednesday night, but for reasons other than basketball.
The Houston County football program gathered there to celebrate the signing of six athletes to continue their football careers collegiately.
The six seniors who signed included Jeremy Blute, Jaquari Brown, Khalil House, Recordo Tarver, Kale Woodburn, and Ricky Johnson. With all six signing to continue their careers at the Division One level, the Houston County community had much to celebrate.
The first senior to sign was offensive lineman Jeremy Blute with the Air Force Academy. Blute played a pivotal role of the Bears’ offensive line as he held down multiple positions and filled roles due to injury. Blute started games at offensive tackle, guard, and center throughout his time as a Bear.
The next to sign was defensive back Jaquari Brown with Georgia Southern University. Brown primarily played cornerback for Houston County boasting impressive numbers as the Bears’ premiere shut down defensive back during his all region campaign as a senior. At Georgia Southern, Brown poses the ability to continue his career as a cornerback or transition to play safety.
Next was Khalil House with Stanford University. House started games at multiple positions across the Houston County offensive line and recorded 16 pancake blocks during his 2023 all state campaign. House’s lethal combination of remarkable speed and strength allowed for him to be the centerpiece of the Houston County offensive line in 2023.
Wide receiver Recordo Tarver was the next to sign with Georgia State University. Tarver played multiple positions during his time as a Bear including a massive role on special teams. As the ultimate speed threat, Tarver continuously harmed defenses with long receptions while outrunning defenders.
Kale Woodburn was the next member of the Houston County football to sign, and he signed with The University of Cincinnati. Woodburn played a pivotal role in the Bears’ offense over the course of his career playing wide receiver. Woodburn’s elusiveness and quickness allowed him to catch many passes as one of his quarterback’s favorite targets.
The final Bear to sign did not sign his letter of intent publicly. Star wide receiver Ricky Johnson flipped his commitment from Stanford University to Mississippi State University on Wednesday publicly announcing his decision through Instagram. Johnson chose to sign his letter of intent privately, but head coach Jeremy Edwards still gave Johnson a moment of recognition during the ceremony Wednesday night.
The six signees accomplished numerous goals during their two year tenure with Edwards.
Boasting a 19-6 record over the past two seasons with back-to-back trips to GHSA Playoffs. The Houston County football program looks to continue their progress from the past two seasons in 2024 even with the loss of these six signees and many more seniors.
On behalf of the Houston Home Journal, congratulations and good luck to these men as they continue their academic and athletic careers!
