Houston County dominant in day one of state track and field championships
The Houston County High School Bears brought 11 athletes to the 6A state track and field championships at Grisham Stadium in Carrollton and are already in line to host a couple state titles after day one. Three Houston County athlete finished in the top 10 in their respective disciplines.
Sophomores Kyah Plummer and Wesley Steiner won state titles in the boys triple jump and boys discusss, respectively. Both athletes play for the Bears football team and are on the college football recruitment radar. Plumer jumped 47-4/14 and Steiner’s toss of 163’5 won them state titles while teammate Levonis Davis finished seventh in the girl’s discuss competition.
Veterans girls have strong showing on day one
Lady Warhawks took home two top-3 finishes on day one of the 5A state track and field championships at Carrollton High School’s Grisham Stadium.
Shainne Sipsey finished second in the triple jump with a 39-01.50 and distance runner Mackenzie Walls placed third in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:07.65.
