Houston County Bears route Alcovy in 6A first round

The Houston County Bears hosted the Alcovy Tigers on Wednesday evening at “The Garden.” This marked Day One of the 2022 GHSA State 6A Baseball Playoffs.

That night, the Houston Bears defeated the Alcovy Tigers in back-to-back games. In Game One, the Bears scored 15 runs and in Game Two, the Bears scored 14 runs to advance to the Sweet-16 next week. After the losses, Alcovy ended their season with the short drive back to Covington.

The Houston County Bears are relentless and are looking to repeat as GHSA State 6A champions. The Bears from Houston County will play the Bears from Cambridge next week. At 25-4 overall, the Houston County Bears finished their 2021-2022 campaign undefeated in region 1-6A. While finishing as the undefeated region champs, the Bears are yet to be defeated in Warner Robins.

Houston Bears Baseball Coach Matt Hopkins released the following statement: “Great start to the playoffs with two wins over Alcovy, 15-0 in three innings and 14-0 in five innings. Big week next week, as we advance to the sweet 16 for the sixth consecutive season.”

In Game One, Kaden Galason was 3 for 3, drove in five and scored three times. Galason hit a double and a homer. Gage Harrelson was 2 for 3 with two scores. Drew Burress was 2 for 4, with two RBI’s and two homers.

This 2022 senior class won the GHSA State Baseball Title in 2019 and 2021. A state title this year will mark the third in four years for these seniors.

In 2022, the Houston County Bears have scored 275 runs and has allowed fewer than 95 runs. This Houston County team is looking fierce as they continue their ten-game winning streak. The Bears are hot at home this season and undefeated in “War-Town.”

The Houston County Bears are ranked as the number one team in the Peach State, region 1-6A, as well as atop the Macon area. Cambridge is 25-7, as they will travel south next week. The Cambridge Bears will continue their historic season in “War-Town,” as they look to knock off the best in the Peach State. Houston County Bears mentions the want for fans and support, in the following: “We need everyone to come out and show support, as we welcome a very talented Cambridge team to “The Garden”. This Sweet 16 matchup will be a “Battle of the Bears”. On May 3, the Bears will host Cambridge in a double-header. Cambridge will travel from Milton. Game one will begin at 4:30 and game two will begin at 7pm. If a tie-breaker is needed, a game three will be hosted by Houston County on May fourth, at 5pm. Perfect Game high school rankings were released on April 26. The Perfect Game High School rankings have the Houston County Bears ranked as number twelve in America. Florida’s Stoneman Douglas’ baseball team in considered the best high school team in the country. Likewise, Houston County is considered top ten amongst various verified polls. The Houston County Bears have passed every test they have been faced with. Baseball and spring football will take place at Houston County High School next week.
