Houston County and Northside to send 24 wrestlers to state sectionals in Sugar Hill

The Georgia High School Association state sectionals are right around the corner and for two dozen local wrestlers the AAAAAA event will most likely feel like home because of how many familiar faces they are sure to see. The Houston County Bears and Northside Eagles wrestling programs will combine to send 24 wrestlers, 19 boys and five girls, to the AAAAAA state sectionals at Lanier High School in Sugar Hill. 

“They have been working extremely hard and improved greatly since the beginning of the season,” said Northside assistant coach Corey Jones. 

The five girls headed to the sectionals; Penny Jackson, Beyonce McCollumn, MaCayla Moody, Taqwai Seburn and Tashayla West, are all from Northside. 

“We are very proud of our wrestlers and what they have accomplished thus far. We’re excited to see what they can do next weekend.”

Houston County will send Alex Payan (106 pounds), Jordan Hittle (113), Caden McIver (126), Lee Sutcliff (132), Will Robitzsch (138), Eason Martin (152), Josh Baroni (160), Michael Holston (170), Thomas Swart (195), Tad Weatherall (220) and Chandler Strong (285). 

Northside will send Julian Dixon (113), Kayden Ward (120), Brandon Oliver (145), William Bradford (152), Shawn Hill (182), Terrence Jones (195), CJ Radford (220) and Javion Green (285). 

The tournament will take place on Friday, Feb. 7 with morning weigh-ins before the first round begins at noon. The consolation and quarterfinal rounds will are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. The semifinals and finals will take place on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Perry to host AAAA sectionals Friday and Saturday

The Perry Panthers will host AAAA teams from all over the state in the GHSA sectionals beginning on Friday, Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. The semifinals and consolation rounds will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8.
