HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — Houston County Fire Department work to fight a fire Monday afternoon, after a neighbor called and informed them of the blaze. With the fire already stretching across the house through the attic, the house took heavy damages, with much of it’s left side destroyed.

Houston County Fire Chief Chris Stoner provided The Journal with some additional details while on the scene.

“[We] had a really good response getting here, and they had heavy fire conditions, as you can see from the front of the house,” Stoner explained. “When they got here the fire was already in the attic and had moved about halfway across the house, as well as the garage, kitchen and dining room areas on fire.

“They were able to contain the fire to those areas, did a did a really good job getting the stop on it. There is smoke damage in the rest of the house.”

Stoner reports no injuries, with no one in the home when the fire began. He said he expects the home will be an “extensive overhaul and rebuild,” due to the heat and smoke damage throughout the home.

“Hopefully they’ll be able to salvage some things out of the bedrooms that were on the opposite side of the house from the fire,” Stoner said. “We haven’t completely got everything out yet, so we haven’t walked through and made that determination.”

As of print time Tuesday, the cause of the fire is currently unknown, as well as where the fire first began.
