Home is where love is
From the time that we are small children, many of us have used the expression, “I am going home.” When our neighbors’ children quarreled, their first thought was, “I am going home.”
A young child runs home to their mother and hears loving words of comfort and kind hands to wipe away their tears.
A small boy who was sent to a summer camp by his working mother became so homesick that he ran away from the camp. He became lost and was almost dead from exposure when he was found.
“Why did you run away, son?” the camp supervisor asked him. “I wanted to go to my own home,” the little boy explained.
Most children do not care whether their home is large or small; what matters to them is it is their home. Their home means safety, security and love.
The thoughts of most of us Christians as we grow older turn more and more to that home where Jesus awaits for us. He promised that He would prepare a place for us and in heaven there will never be an unhappy time.
There are many things that children leave at their mother’s house until they get a larger home. But their mothers never complain because they love their children and want home to still be there for them no matter how old they may be.
When we arrive at our eternal home, the joy of meeting our Savior and our Lord will come first. Then we will have happy reunions with friends and loved ones who went on ahead of us. When the years of eternity have just started to pass, we will have time to look around our Father’s house and find the treasures laid up and kept for us.
A story is told about a cub scout meeting one day where some of the boys were misbehaving. One rather large child for his age said, “If they had a mom like mine, they would not be acting that way.”
The young boy’s mom was not a very large lady weighing just over one hundred pounds. Yet, her boys were well behaved. She was not a cruel mom, but she did believe in discipline. She demanded absolute respect and punished the boys when it was not given. Yet, she would stay up late at night to bake cookies or finish a costume for them. Her boys always came first in her life.
It is an awesome responsibility to be a good mother and lead your children down the right road, yet it is a wonderful privilege. Proverbs 31:28 says, “Her children arise up and call her blessed.”
When a young boy growing up in Lavonia, Ga. with my older brother and younger sister, our mother, “Ms. Effie,” was the one who carried us to Sunday school and church on Sunday mornings. Our dad was a good guy also but mothers seem closer to their children.
Sunday is Mother’s Day. So enjoy your day, mothers, with your family and loved ones!
