Over the course of the 2021-2022 scholastic year, the Houston County School District will be introducing its Top 10 Teachers of the Year for the county. Amongst those honored educators is this month’s spotlight, Mrs. Rhonda Zellner, a middle school math and science instructor at the WIN Academy in Warner Robins.

“I love what I do, and I know God called me to teach, love and inspire students. Being named the Houston County WIN Academy 2021-2022 Teacher of the Year was truly exciting,” Zellner said, citing that it is a special honor to be named one of the top 10 teachers for the entire Houston County School District.

Zellner also explained how she has always been make a difference, by positively impacting the lives of children. She feels that a positive impact can make an enormous difference in the life of a child. “My inspiration comes from my sister, who inspired me to love learning and be willing to make a difference in the lives of others.”

Reminiscing about her past, Zellner explained more about that part of her inspiration. Her sister is more than her sister; she is also an educator who taught her in the past. “My second-grade teacher had the most influence on my life, because she was my oldest sister, Betty B. Bryant. She made learning fun, and I witnessed the impact she had on countless other lives. Betty is not only my sister, but the perfect role model.”

Early in life, Zellner aspired to become a teacher. “It has been my dream to teach since I was in elementary school. I love teaching; it is one of the most rewarding careers,” she added. “It is the only career I know in which I can wear multiple hats: a motivator, an inspiration, a role model, a counselor and so much more.”

Zellner recently began her 16th year as an educator, in which time, she has taught both middle and high school levels. She began teaching at the WIN Academy in 2020. Zellner remarked that, “Education is steadily evolving; educators must be flexible and align with the ever-changing times, because change is the most challenging part of teaching.” She explained that being a difference-maker is the best part of teaching. “Positively influencing each student is something I strive for as an educator. I walk through the school doors each day expecting to make a difference. I purposely smile and teach with enthusiasm. Seeing students get excited about their learning is something I love.” Additionally, Zellner mentioned that a parent’s interest and attention can reap countless benefits, which can foster a love of learning in their children.

As a final message to all students, she stated, “Never stop learning, be a lifelong learner. I am a firm believer that learning can take you to many destinations along life’s journey. Even detours and delays offer valuable learning lessons, so never stop learning. Rise to the challenge and support classroom achievement.”

Originally from Vienna, Georgia, Rhonda Zellner spent her undergraduate years on the yard of Mercer University. She earned her masters degree from the University Of West Alabama. Most recently, she attended Nova Southeastern University, where she received her specialist degree, but she’s not done yet. “Currently, I am pursuing a doctorate in education,” added Zellner.

In addition to being one of Houston County’s top 10 educators, Zellner is the wife of Walter Zellner and they have lived in Warner Robins for the last 20 years. She is also the mother of Icyana, DeMarco and Justin. Zellner loves to read, shop, cook and travel in her spare time. The Zellner family are members of the Fellowship Bible Baptist Church.
