HOCO Lady Bears win county championship

The Houston County Lady Bears claimed the county championship on Tuesday with wins over Warner Robins and Veterans. The Bears handled Warner Robins with ease, winning two sets to none. Warner Robins lost the first set 25-8 and then dropped the second set 25-12.

The Houston County and Veterans series was another classic between the archrivals. The series went to the wire after the first two sets were split. The Bears dropped the first set 25-21 and rebounded in the second set to win 25-23 and send the series into a match deciding third set. Houston County won 15-13 in the final set to claim the county championship.

Against Veterans, junior De’Nyla Harlan had 11 kills and senior Makala Thompson had 10. Junior Lauren Desliets had seven kills with two blocks and the set-up maestro, senior Jaden Wilson, finished the series with 33 assists and 14 digs.

Up next: Houston County will get ready for the 6A state playoffs that start Oct. 20.
