His Turn at bat: WRHS QB Dylan Fromm makes first career start tonight
The
Warner Robins High School Demons will open the 2017 football season with a
preseason affair against Westside High School at McConnell-Talbert Stadium next
Friday and not only will the local football fans and alums be itching to see
what the team looks like. Former Houston County High School backup quarterback
Dylan Fromm will be just as excited to get back on the field and actually get
on the field this time. According to Demons head coach Mike Chastain, Fromm is
going to make his first career high school start on Friday night. “I’m excited,
I can’t wait to be out there,” said Fromm by phone Thursday night.
“He’s
had a good summer and we had some good competition at quarterback,” says
Chastain. “We’re excited about seeing what [Dylan] Fromm is going to do
[tonight] and on into the season.”
As
the backup for all region, U.S. Army All-American selection and older brother
Jake Fromm, the 6’0”, 190-pound junior didn’t have many opportunities to play
very much last season. Fromm’s total numbers from last season: 2-4 for nine
yards without a touchdown (or an interception). He also rushed for 18 yards on
five attempts.
Fromm,
a traditional pocket quarterback, will have less attempts to add to his rushing
stats (his brother ran for 363 yards and four touchdowns last year), but he
will get to run, what is on paper at least, a high octane offense with former
Bears teammates: twin brother Tyler at receiver (who recently received an offer
from Troy University) and senior running back Jaeven West to go along with
returnees junior running back Jarius Burnett and junior receiver Juwight
Hutchinson, who has recently received interest from a Division II program. “I
want to go out there and prove a point that we’re not the same team from last
year,” says Fromm. Asked if he has enough weapons to get the job done this
season he answered, “I have more have more than enough.”
His
father agrees. “There might be five, six Division I players on this team,” says Emerson Fromm. “Dylan has a very good team to play with. This is a blue collar team and all they want to
do is work.”
On
Friday night, the Demons will hit the field in preparation for their Aug. 18
matchup with rival Northside High School. Dylan Fromm will be called under
center to be the starting quarterback. Is he ready for what’s to come?
“In
my opinion, Dylan has a more accurate arm at this stage than Jake had,” says
Lee.
That
remains to be seen.
“I
waited two years behind Jake and I’m just excited and I can’t wait,” says
Fromm. Warner Robins and Westside are scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
