Hines elected to PAGE Foundation board
Houston County School Superintendent Robin Hines has been elected to serve a three-year term on the Board of Trustees of the PAGE Foundation, a charitable education foundation created in 1985 by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE), the state’s largest association of teachers, school administrators and school support personnel. Hines’ election was announced by PAGE Foundation President John Varner.
“We are thrilled to have Robin on our board,” said Varner. “We see him as a transformational leader who recognizes the need and urgency for change in public education and who has the experience and practical know-how to bring about beneficial change for students and the community. Robin has more than 30 years of experience in public education, much of which was spent as a classroom teacher. We think he is going to be a very strong contributor to our efforts to teach aspiring educators what it means to be a teacher leader and what can be accomplished when students are engaged in challenging, meaningful course work.”
As a trustee of the PAGE Foundation, Hines will help govern the nonprofit organization as it works to fulfill its mission which is to promote a world-class education for all of Georgia’s students through initiatives that recruit, develop, retain and recognize excellent teachers.
A major thrust of the PAGE Foundation is the development of new generations of qualified, professional and ethical educators through programs such as the Future Educators Association of Georgia (FEA Georgia) and the Student Professional Association of Georgia Educators (SPAGE).
FEA is an exploratory program that allows young people in middle and high schools to learn more about teaching as a career. SPAGE serves aspiring teachers on college and university campuses dotting the state.
Other programs of the PAGE Foundation include the PAGE STAR Student and STAR Teacher program, which was created by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce 55 years ago, the PAGE Georgia Academic Decathlon for high school students and the PAGE Georgia Academic Bowl for Middle Grades. The PAGE Foundation also offers scholarships on a competitive basis to aspiring teachers who are SPAGE members and to PAGE members who wish to pursue an advanced degree in the subject they teach.
