WARNER ROBINS — Jim ’N Nick’s president said it best: “It’s a very personal choice, kind of like what college football you like, what church you go to, what barbecue to eat.”
Personally, I have always been a fan of Sonny’s, my go-to when I’m craving barbecue. However, after attending the ribbon cutting for Jim ’N Nick’s on Watson Boulevard, I had to try them out. I had some lemonade at the ribbon cutting, and it was fantastic. If that was good, the rest had to be good, right?
My husband and I arrived at the restaurant fresh out of work. We weren’t really looking to dine in, so we were relieved to have the option to drive through. As we made our way through the parking lot, an employee directed traffic and showed us the way to the drive-through line. He informed us it would be a 45-minute wait. For some reason, this didn’t seem as jarring compared to dining in, so we patiently made our way through the line.
The drive-through style was standard. The best way I can compare it is to Chick-fil-A: there’s a speaker, you drive up to the front, and someone comes to your car to deliver the goods.
The night we went, several options were available. The only downside was a lack of baked potatoes. My husband was slightly devastated, but he quickly changed his order to accommodate.
I ordered spare ribs with mac and cheese and fries on the side, while my husband chose pulled pork, mac and cheese and grilled corn.
Of course, we had to try the cheese biscuits, so we also grabbed an order to split. Since my meal already included them, I got a bonus one for the road.
Besides some initial confusion on our end whether we received the correct order, the drive-through process was smooth and straightforward. We made it through faster than our predicted 45 minutes, about 30 minutes. Service was also very friendly and patient as we perused the menu.

Once we got home, we were ready to dig in. I went straight for the cheese biscuits, and I thought they were delicious! They have a more cornbread consistency, which threw me off at first, but they tasted yummy, and I had no complaints. By far, they were my favorite part of the meal.
My husband enjoyed the biscuits and his food. He wasn’t raving about it, but I could tell he enjoyed his meal and had no complaints.
However, I did have one minor complaint about mine. I was enjoying the taste of my spare ribs when I encountered a few bites that tasted very much like pickles. If you like pickles, no harm, no foul, but I am not a fan, so it didn’t make sense that they were included in my meal. I didn’t have a sandwich, and I certainly didn’t ask for them.
The rogue pickles aside, the meal was delicious. The sauce on my ribs was a perfect blend of sweet and spice and wasn’t too overpowering. The fries were standard, nothing to write home about, but the mac and cheese was arguably some of the best I’ve had in a while.
In total, for two meals, two drinks, cheese biscuits and a tip, we paid $52. This is about average for what we would pay for a meal like this, so I feel the prices are adequate for the food quality.
The only thing I was disappointed about was the lack of baked potatoes. I can safely say that I will be back for the biscuits. The delicious barbecue is definitely a bonus.
