Here Comes The Judge

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

A popular saying heard in days gone by was, “Here comes the Judge! Here comes the Judge!” It was used in a comedy sketch show and entertained millions each week. Everyone would look forward to the arrival of the judge to see what resolution would be brought to each situation. It seems like these days are filled with people espousing the tenets of filling their air space with a lot of judgement-free zones. Whether in a brainstorming session with colleagues, a workout at the gym or a consultation with a counselor, the idea of a judgment free environment is promoted. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a judgment-free zone.

Judgments are the result of making a decision or sensible conclusion after considering the matter. Can a place where judgments, decisions or conclusions exist? Is it found in the books and articles read that help learn how to comprehend? Is it found somewhere hidden in the depths of the ocean or the dark recesses of the Earth? If I climb the highest mountain or trudge through the lowest valley, can it be there? It just may be in the frigid regions of outer space between the celestial and terrestrial bodies. I am aware that there are people and places who want zones to be judgment-free but I have examined this matter and cannot find where this exists.

The local fitness center dares to proclaim it is a judgment free space but, in reality, the people that are there have already judge themselves to have need of a place to work on their body. In order to be part of a group, for whatever reason it exists, required there to be judgments made to determine how you will participate.

The headlines, news stories, and commercials are filled with information that has as its end result to steer how we think. We would benefit from knowing more about the source of the information we receive and what the motivation of that source is. A blade in my surgeon’s hands cuts just like the blade in a mugger’s hand. The difference is one of them causes pain that hurts while the other causes pain to hurt. The motivation of the source always matters.

In this season when we exchange gifts, smiles, invitations and other pleasantries let’s take note of why we do what we do just as much as what we do. When we receive any of these things let’s consider why the other did what they did along with what they did. Since, we cannot get away from the zones without judgment, lets look within ourself and instigate being the agent of positive change in our life, initiate conversations that are meant to help build up, and celebrate being set free from the myth of the judgment-free zone. The world better look out because now that you know this truth you will help others get free and there will be a new judge in town.
