HCFD graduates new class
All new recruits of the
Houston County Fire Department (HCFD) are required to go through basic training
provided by HCFD so that the recruit achieves a level of The Basic Firefighter
NPQ-1.
The Basic Firefighter NPQ-1
course is a 187-hour program designed to train fire personnel to meet all the
objectives of NFPA 1001-“Standards for Firefighters Professional
Qualifications.” This standard identifies the minimum job requirements for
career and volunteer firefighters whose duties are primarily structure in
nature. Students learned live fire techniques as described in NFPA 1403
(Standard on Live Fire Training Evolutions), and had meet the requirements in
these Standards to fight Live Fire on completion of this course. The recruits also had to pass a
“Progressive Physical Ability Program” as part of the training.
Recruit Students had to pass
the final written examination with a minimum score of 70 percent to receive a
Georgia Fire Academy certificate and to be allowed to proceed with the
practical test stations of NPQ (National Professional Qualifications).
Recruits
who successfully pass all practical test stations will receive the NPQ
Firefighter I from Georgia Firefighters Standards & Training Council.
