HC Sharks bring home basketball championship
From Staff Reports
For the seventh time, Houston County’s Sharks adaptive
sports program brought home a state championship. This time, the prize carried
the stamp of the Georgia High School Association.
On Friday, at the same time and same location as the GHSA
state basketball finals, the Sharks played the West Georgia Wolverines for the
2013 GHSA/AAASP basketball title. With a 24-21 victory, Houston County claimed
its first championship in varsity hoops.
At the Macon
Centreplex, the Wolverines took an early lead during the six eight-minute
period format, but the Sharks fought back to take the lead during the fifth
period of play.
Braxton Robinson led the Shark offense with 12 points. Jeff
Sweeney (six points), Ja-Que Billingsley (four points) and Jordan Kozloski (two
points) added to the Sharks scoring attack.
“Our senior captains
Ben Masters and David Presley provided leadership on and off the court,” said
head coach Christy Jones. “David had four assists in the game. The Sharks
defense worked hard shutting down the Wolverines lead scorer Doug Johnson.
Faith Beiker, William Moore, Gracie Webb, and Kierra Miles led the Sharks
offense.”
