Hardy’s Hawks win region title; GHSA tournament approaching

The Veterans Warhawks have been on a post-season tear. Veterans beat the Coffee Trojans in the game before to advance to the region title game. In their 56-24 win, Jeremy Sams had 20 points, Tajh Williams had 13 points, and Malachi Fields added eight. This win made the Hawks 15-10 overall.

Jamaal Garman and the terrorizing Demons beat the Wayne County Yellow Jackets in their game prior to the region title. Warner Robins won 68-60.

Jordyan Keith and Rashuan Williams combined for twenty-eight points, but Cam Perkins and Antwon Jackson combined for sixteen points. The 68-60 win, helped the Demons improve to 18-6, heading into the 1-5A (1-AAAA) title game. Even though, the Demons were hosting the tournament and seemed to have the better season, the Warhawks believed otherwise.

Coach Brett Hardy and the Veterans Warhawks won their second of back-to-back region 1-AAAAA (1-5A) basketball titles over the weekend. The Stage was set at Warner Robins High School against the Demons from “War-Town.” There were a total of four lead changes in the first period of the region title game.

Warhawk combo guard, DJ Wright, hit a pair from beyond the arc. Wright’s scoring rampage helped the Hawks lead, 19-9 early on.

Setting the tempo early, the team from Kathleen slows down, as their lead grew 10 points at the duration of the first half. The Warhawks were in control of the game with a 21-11 lead. As the Demons attempted to close the margin of Veterans’ lead, the Demons continued to show signs of life on the defensive end. Veterans were outscored in the third period 17-14, but the Warner Robins Demons still trailed.

Coach Jamaal Garman and the Demons cut the lead down to seven points, but the Demons could not get any closer. Warner Robins trailed after three quarters, 50-37.

The fourth quarter was big for Coach Brett Hardy and the Hawks from Kathleen. Jones, Sams and Wright battled hard throughout the final period, which was crucial in the Warhawks claiming their back-to-back region title.

The Warhawks beat the Demons at home, 68-55. Warner Robins falls to 18-7 overall and finished with one lost in the region, at 7-1. The region title win was also the fourth win in a row for the Veterans Warhawks. Coach Brett Hardy and the Hawks improved to 16-10 overall.

The ladies from Waycross will head into the state tournament as the second seed from region 1-5A. The Hawks also finished 5-2 in region 1-5A. The Demons will play the third seed from another region within class 5A. The Warhawks will host the fourth seed from another region in the GHSA State tournament.
