Happy Hour Center’s Recycled Treasures Yardsale reopens
After four months, Recycled Treasures Yardsale officially re-opened Wednesday. Earlier this year, Happy Hour Service Center’s thrift store temporarily closed due to needing the space for a new workshop training program.
Executive director of Happy Hour Service Center Stan Blaxton said they plan to have a grand opening of the store in a couple of weeks.
“We are excited to get Recycled Treasures back up and running,” said Blaxton. “This store is so important to us because all proceeds benefit the medical needs of developmentally disabled adults.”
Since 1956, Happy Hour Service Center has been serving the developmentally disabled citizens of Houston County. Blaxton said Happy Hour is a non-profit organization that helps train individuals in daily living skills, communication skills, social skills and work adjustment skills.
Retail manager of Recycle Treasures Phil Lattimer said the store has gently used items such as televisions, furniture, toys, clothes, and much more for sale.
“We even have some items from the larger stores in town that had final run items they couldn’t move, so they have graciously donated them to us to sale,” said Lattimer. “Donations can be dropped off at our drive-through or, if you have an item that is to big to handle, we will come pick it up. The only items we don’t really take are mattresses and box springs.”
The store also has a special Christmas room that Lattimer said is filled with some of the most unique rare decorations, and also has Every Day In USA Is Armed Forces Appreciation Day items for sale. Blaxton said there are future plans to expand Recycled Treasures.
“The Friends of the Library use to be in the front of the building but have now moved on,” said Blaxton. “What we would like to do is take out the extra walls to make it a huge store, and turn the back into another workshop area. That’s the key to what we do … provide our individuals with the proper job skills to get them back working in the community.”
Lattimer said the store is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and is open the first and third Saturdays of each month. If you have an item that you would like to be picked up you can call the store at 478-602-5101. For more information go online to www.hcaec.com and Facebook page Recycled Treasures Yardsale.
