WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — After students informed staff that one of their peers may be carrying a weapon, an administrative search revealed that a Warner Robins High School student was carrying a loaded handgun in their backpack. Sergeant Tim Pippio with the Warner Robins Police Department shared additional details.

“[On Wednesday], the school administrators were made aware of a possible weapon on campus,” Pippio explained. “They contacted the School Resource Officers that were on scene, asked them to accompany them. The administrators pulled the student out of class with their bag, asked them if they had anything in the bag.

“Administrators conducted an administrative search of the bag and found the handgun.”

The student, a juvenile, was taken into custody and charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm under 18.

The incident occurred around noon on Wednesday. No one was injured during the search or following processes.

According to Jennifer Jones, director of community and school affairs, Warner Robins High School Principal Chris McCook did reach out to parents and guardians with a brief message, informing them of the discovered firearm, and that all students and staff were safe.
