PEACH COUNTY, Ga. — Traffic backed up for miles along I-75 Friday morning due to a crash around Mile Marker 142 in Peach County. According to the Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS), the crash stemmed from a chase spanning two counties that occurred earlier.

Around 7:05 a.m. on Aug. 19, a Georgia State Patrol trooper attempted to stop a silver Infiniti SUV for following too closely and improper tag display. This attempt took place on the interstate near Mile Marker 130 in Houston County.

The driver of the SUV did not stop and instead initiated a pursuit. The chase spanned for 12 miles, and troopers ultimately initiated a PIT maneuver to stop the chase.

“The Infiniti struck the center guardrail and began to overturn and came to rest in the median,” Franka Young with the DPS Public Information Office said.

The occupants of the vehicle were transported to Atrium Navicent in Macon for minor injuries. The driver of the SUV and a passenger were arrested for outstanding felony warrants, including Automobile Theft, Aggravated Armed Robbery and Drug Trafficking.

The driver was also charged with pursuit related charges.
