Centerville city officials gathered Wednesday to break

ground at the future site of the law enforcement center.

The center that cost $2.1 million will be located behind the

former library on Church Street. The library will be renovated to become the

municipal court. Court is currently held in the community room of city hall,

said Mayor John Harley after the ceremony.

“I’m very excited about today,” said Police Chief Sid

Andrews. “It’s been a long time coming.”

The building will be approximately 10,000 square feet and

will include security upgrades, such as a sally port and state-of-the-art

evidence storage area.

The law enforcement center will be funded from the 2012

special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST). Harley thanked voters for

approving the SPLOST during the ceremony.

“This building isn’t going to just benefit us today, but

future chiefs and police officers” said Andrews.
