Pastor Malik Gordon said they have been growing more in the word of God and have gone from a Baptist to a Multiethnic church. He said God put it in his heart to lead a multiethnic ministry.

“That’s what we’re striving to do, and we just want to do whatever we can to let people know that we’re here in the city of Warner Robins,” he said.

A multiethnic church is where everyone can attend regardless of background. Gordon said as a believer and a Christian, he has noticed some feel like they do not belong in certain churches because of their skin color or background.

“We want people to know that anybody is welcomed at Greater Victory [church], no matter what your race is. [It] doesn’t matter what your background is, because in the book of Colossians it talks about how ‘it doesn’t matter if you’re Jew or Greek, it doesn’t matter if you’re bond nor free.’ Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us. That’s what we promote, and that’s what we want people to know,” he said.

Greater Victory Church started in 1983 as a Baptist church, previously located at 104 Davis Street. Gordon’s father took over the church in 2002, and in November 2016, Gordon stepped into his father’s role as Pastor.

They recently celebrated their ninth anniversary of moving from Davis Street to their current location, 201 South Houston Road.

Gordon said he has seen the church grow more spiritually than numerically. He said this is why they decided this year to reach out to the community more to let them know they are here. Gordon shared that they started doing more outreach, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that it is less of an issue, they are trying to do more outreach.

One outreach they did was to go out in front of the church and pray. Gordon shares they have gone to their nearest Walmart to pray for people. He also has plans to bring members together, including having their ministry on the radio.

“We’re just trying to do whatever we can to let everybody know that we’re here because I believe that there are people right here in Warner Robins and in Houston County that are looking for this type of church,” he said.

Gordon also strives to create a healthy church environment and clear misconceptions about where people can worship.

“There are people that, like I mentioned about race, some people might say, ‘That’s a Black church. I’m not going to feel comfortable there because I’m not Black,’ or, ‘That’s a White church,’ or, ‘That’s a Hispanic church.’ But we want people to know that anybody is welcomed at our church. We want different cultures and backgrounds; we want to get to know people,” he said.

Gordon believes Christ is in all of us, and he hopes his ministry can paint the “picture-perfect picture of Heaven on Earth.”

Gordon also plans to provide programs for his members and increase the number of people who can help his plans come to fruition. Recently, the church has opened its doors to people who have been “church hurt” and believers with gifts they want to use. Gordon wants to encourage them to attend Greater Victory, and they have a place for people to use their gifts.

“We know that the Holy Scripture teaches that the Holy Spirit gives gifts to all of us so that we can help each other. In order for you to be able to help someone you have to be able to exercise those gifts,” he said. “We want to let people know that if you’re at a place where you feel like you can’t exercise your gifts, Greater Victory is here at this location at the city of Warner Robins.”

Gordon hopes to create an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome. He hopes that not only do they feel welcomed, but whenever they come and worship with them, they realize that they are at a church. He doesn’t want the church to fit into a specific type of church like Baptist or Methodist but instead be a church similar to the early churches in the scriptures.

Gordon shared that people who visit their church before always say it has a loving atmosphere, and that is what they strive to do.

“Everybody is dealing with something, and we want to create that loving atmosphere so that we can be a blessing to whoever the Lord leads us to be able to give blessings to,” he said.

Gordon also hopes people will feel the love of Christ when they walk through the church’s doors.

He shares that even though they hold their services every Sunday morning, they try to keep their focus outside the church. He plans on doing more events outside the church because he believes the church is not about just inside the building.

“We are the church. A church is about helping somebody’s life transform and that can happen Monday through Saturday just as well as it can on Sunday,” he said.
