On Wednesday, Governor Brian Kemp signed Executive Order 10.15.01, extending current COVID-19 restrictions with minimal changes to the section on Industry, Commerce, Organizations, and Non-Profits.

The new Executive Order went into effect on October 16 at 12:00 a.m. and will run through October 31 at 11:59 p.m. The public health emergency remains in place until November 9, 2020.

Kemp first declared a public health state of emergency on March 14, and it has been continuously extended since then. Also in March, Kemp said the point of the emergency declaration was to, “allow the Department of Public Health to direct specific health care action in extraordinary circumstances.”

In a press conference last week, Kemp encouraged Georgians to continue following state guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Kemp and the Georgia Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Kathleen Toomey urged Georgia residents to do the “Four Things for Fall.”

1.Wear a mask

2.Watch your distance

3.Wash your hands

4.Follow public health guidelines

Toomey also said she wanted to “emphasize the four pillars of prevention” as well as encourage folks to get a flu shot this year. She said it’s about preventing a “twindemic,” since experts are unsure of what the effects of COVID-19 and influenza are when combined.
