Get ready for Peaches to Beaches
Every second weekend of March since 2005 has been designated Peaches to Beaches weekend by the Golden Isles Parkway Association. Georgia’s version of the World’s Longest Yard Sale starts in Barnesville and travels down Highway 341, otherwise known as Golden Isles Parkway, to Brunswick. Individuals and groups will be selling their wares March 8 and 9 this year. You can Google this event for more information. I believe it is too late however to get on the official map.
I pray we have good weather for everyone this year. The majority of the past years has either been cold, wet, windy or all of the above! I believe last year the weather was beautiful. Bad weather won’t stop the diehard shoppers though, there are lots of venues that are inside that you can enjoy in case of inclement weather.
Make sure you bring cash, comfortable shoes and lots of patience! There will be lots of cars on the road going in and out of the roadway. The early bird does get the worm so start out early, take a large or rolling shopping bag and lots of friends!
Our family has made it a tradition to shop the route until we get tired or run out of money (which happens pretty quickly). You can find pretty much everything under the sun at the sale from antiques to food to livestock! We always like to stop in Eastman at a large sale with a man selling pairs of chickens! Last year we bought a pair of Bantams we named Thelma and Louise since they joined us on our road trip.
It is always our goal to make it to Jekyll Island by sunset to enjoy a seafood dinner at a restaurant on the water. The year before our favorite restaurant was closed so we found a Mexican place which worked out well because we crushed up tortilla chips to make a fine dinner for Thelma and Louise. Not every chicken can claim they spent the weekend shopping, spent the night at the beach and had a fine Mexican dinner. Happy Collecting!
